In light of recent events...

Studies show that 2 out of 3 battered women return to their abusers...

Why is that?

  3. why do they return? It is complicated... it isn't as simple as ego and self-esteem. It isn't a black and white issue. I do NOT advocate any form of violence against women or in general. And I definitely do not think it is an effective way of resolving interpersonal conflicts. However, love and affection have various methods of expression. We tend to love what we are familiar with and what is comfortable to us. For some as they came up only getting attention and affection that was physical in nature... while that certainly may not have been ideal or healthy viewed in the eyes of the general public, it is the reality and in some instances, the most effective or only way to survive. Again I do not condone it, but i also do not think we can make blanket assumptions about violence in relationships. Also check out these songs: 'Domestic Violence' by the RZA and 'Trials of Love' by Prodigy of Mobb Deep.
